effective seo techniques

Improve your search marketing success when you implement four of the most effective SEO techniques on your website, see what they are below…

When considering your search engine optimisation efforts, it can be difficult to pinpoint what is working and what isn’t. Besides, with algorithm updates becoming more regular and less obvious, rankings consistently fluctuate and staying on top of best practice could be considered comparable to boiling the ocean.

That said, it is possible to consistently maintain good visibility on search engine result pages by following four of the most effective SEO techniques.

1. Create quality content

Creating good quality content should be a high priority on your digital marketing plan. Not only is it cost effective, but it can also drive traffic (and hopefully conversions) on a long-term basis.

Content marketing encompasses anything from videos, infographics, blog posts, and photo journals and can be created by anybody. You do not need a big budget to create content that will be of use to your website users, all you need to do is create something of value.

I’m reluctant to use the phrase “content is king”, but it is certainly influential when it comes to attracting users to your website.

2. Outreach

Quality backlinks pointing to your website are also extremely important for improving your search engine rankings. Unfortunately the phrase “If you build it, they will come” does not apply to search engine marketing. Instead, you will need to reach out to other websites in order to build good quality links but you’ll need to ensure that you’re going about it in the right way (here is a guide about doing it the wrong way…).

This is where good, relevant pieces of content can really help as visitors to your website may share these on their own website or at least across social media. This will in turn increase the amount of natural backlinks pointing to your website as well as improve your social score (another ranking factor).

Tools such as Majestic and Ahrefs can also help you to identify where your competitor’s backlinks are coming from, and with the right outreach techniques, help you to build your own profile too. Don’t forget to also keep an eye out for any broken links to competitors and swoop in with details about your own service.

3. Get technical

Technical SEO also encompasses numerous factors, and should be considered a cornerstone of your SEO strategy.

Here are some key things to monitor as part of your technical SEO strategy:

  • Look at your site speed (Google’s PageSpeed insights tool is great for this)
  • Identify and fix broken internal and external links
  • Does your website perform well across devices?
  • How are users engaging? (Google Analytics is your best friend here)

By creating a good foundation here, you will arguably experience success more quickly when you implement other SEO techniques.

4. Improve user experience

Following on from the previous point, fixing broken links and ensuring your website loads quickly forms part of a user’s experience with your website. User engagement on your website, for example your click through rate, bounce rate, time on site, etc. are crucial when it comes to Google determining how relevant your site is for specific search terms. When you get this right, you ensure that users can easily navigate and find what they were looking for and also improve your conversion rate, hence showing that your website is useful for other users looking for the same product or service.

These are just four of the most effective SEO techniques, and this is by no means an exhaustive list. That said if you use these techniques consistently and effectively you’ll start to see results in no time.
